It is easy to understand why becoming Emirates cabin crew attracts applicants from almost every corner of the world.
The airline recruits internationally throughout the year, organizing open days and invitation-only assessment events in cities across Europe, Asia, Africa, the Americas and beyond. Successful candidates then relocate to Dubai, which becomes their permanent base while working for Emirates.
But getting the famous red hat and uniform requires more than simply loving travel.
Emirates has specific rules on age, height, education, language skills and customer-service experience. Candidates must also complete a competitive recruitment process before beginning an intensive training programme in Dubai.
The reward is a package that goes well beyond a monthly salary, including company accommodation, transport, travel benefits and annual leave.

What Are the Requirements to Become Emirates Cabin Crew?
The basic entry requirements are relatively straightforward, and a university degree is not required.
Applicants must be at least 21 years old and have completed a minimum of high school education, equivalent to Grade 12. Emirates also requires at least one year of hospitality or customer-service experience.
English is essential. Candidates need to be fluent in both written and spoken English, while additional languages are considered an advantage.
There are also physical requirements. Applicants must be at least 160 cm tall and able to reach 212 cm. The reach requirement is important because cabin crew must be able to access safety equipment and overhead areas inside the aircraft.
Visible tattoos are not permitted while wearing the Emirates cabin crew uniform, and successful candidates must be able to meet the employment visa requirements of the United Arab Emirates.
Do You Need Previous Airline Experience?
No.
This is one reason the Emirates cabin crew route attracts such a wide range of applicants. The airline does not require candidates to have previously worked as flight attendants.
Instead, Emirates looks for at least one year of experience in hospitality or customer service. That can include jobs in hotels, restaurants, retail, tourism or other roles involving direct interaction with customers.
The logic is simple: cabin crew work is partly about aviation safety, but it also involves serving hundreds of passengers from different cultures during long and sometimes demanding journeys.
Communication, teamwork, patience and the ability to handle difficult situations therefore matter as much as previous aviation knowledge.
How Much Does Emirates Cabin Crew Earn?
Emirates publishes its starting pay directly on its careers website.
For new Grade II cabin crew working in Economy Class, the current basic salary is approximately AED 4,980 per month.
But that is only the fixed portion of the salary.
Crew members also receive flying pay of approximately AED 69.60 for every flight hour. Emirates bases its salary example on around 80 to 100 flying hours per month.
When these components are combined, Emirates currently estimates an average monthly pay of around AED 11,244, or approximately $3,061, before taking into account certain additional allowances.
Overseas meal allowances are also paid for eligible night stops, while hotels and transport between the airport and hotel during layovers are provided by the airline.
That means comparing the Emirates salary with a conventional office salary can be misleading: a significant part of the attraction comes from the benefits surrounding the cash compensation.
Do Emirates Cabin Crew Get Free Accommodation?
Yes, and this is one of the biggest financial advantages of the job.
Emirates provides furnished accommodation in Dubai free of charge, including water and electricity. Crew members normally share a two- or three-bedroom apartment with colleagues of the same gender, while each person has their own bedroom and shares common areas such as the kitchen and living room.
The airline also provides transportation between crew accommodation and work, as well as transport to and from the Emirates Training College.
For someone relocating internationally to Dubai, having accommodation and commuting costs covered can significantly change the real value of the employment package.
Everyone Has to Move to Dubai
There is one condition every applicant needs to understand before applying: all Emirates cabin crew are based in Dubai.
This is not a job where employees can choose to remain permanently in London, Milan, Madrid or another recruitment city and simply fly from there.
If selected, candidates relocate to the UAE and Dubai becomes their home base. Emirates handles the work permit and visa process for successful recruits, while the company accommodation system helps new employees settle into the city.
For many applicants, that international lifestyle is one of the biggest attractions of the job. For others, moving abroad may be the most important factor to consider before submitting an application.
How Does the Emirates Recruitment Process Work?
Getting selected is competitive, but the process is relatively clear.
Emirates holds Open Days and invitation-only recruitment events around the world. Candidates can check upcoming locations on the airline’s careers website, and if their city is not listed they can still apply online and wait to be contacted when recruitment reaches a nearby location.
During Recruitment Day, candidates first receive an introduction to the role and life in Dubai. They then take part in group activities and an online assessment before selected applicants progress to the final interview.
Emirates says candidates should have a valid ID and digital copies of an updated CV in English, education certificate and passport ready to share.
The assessment is designed to evaluate more than appearance or language skills. Recruiters are looking closely at teamwork, communication, problem-solving and the way candidates interact with other people.
What Happens During Emirates Cabin Crew Training?
Being offered the job does not mean immediately boarding an aircraft.
New recruits complete an intensive seven-and-a-half-week training programme in Dubai at Emirates’ dedicated training facilities.
The programme begins with induction and then moves quickly into aviation safety. Cabin crew learn how to respond to fires, evacuations and other in-flight emergencies, as well as how to use aircraft safety equipment correctly.
Medical training includes CPR, bleeding, burns and other emergencies that could occur thousands of metres above the ground. Security training covers disruptive passengers, sabotage, hijacking scenarios and personal security.
Only after these safety foundations are established does training move more deeply into customer service, hospitality and the standards passengers associate with Emirates.
This is an important distinction for anyone considering the job: cabin crew are safety professionals first and service professionals second.
How Much Time Off Do Cabin Crew Get?
The lifestyle can look glamorous from the outside, but the schedule is very different from a traditional Monday-to-Friday job.
Emirates cabin crew receive a monthly roster and typically have around eight days off per month in Dubai. Flights can operate at any time of day or night, and schedules may involve weekends, holidays, long-haul sectors and significant changes in time zones.
Employees receive 30 calendar days of annual leave. Emirates also provides one confirmed free annual leave ticket to the employee’s country of origin, which can instead be changed to another Emirates destination from the first year of service.
Cabin crew do not remain assigned to one geographical region. Rosters can include different destinations each month, meaning someone may fly to Europe one week and Asia, Africa or the Americas soon afterwards.
Can You Build a Long-Term Career at Emirates?
Joining Economy Class does not have to be the final destination.
Emirates has a defined cabin crew career structure moving from Economy Class to Business Class, First Class, Cabin Supervisor and eventually Purser.
Promotions are performance-based, and the airline says high-performing crew members have reached Flight Purser level within around five years. Others move into training or management roles elsewhere within the Emirates Group.
This makes the position more than a temporary opportunity for people who simply want to travel for a few years. For the right candidate, it can develop into a long-term international aviation career.
Is Working as Emirates Cabin Crew Really as Good as It Looks?
There are obvious advantages.
Employees live in Dubai without having to pay normal accommodation and utility costs, receive company transport, travel across the Emirates network and work alongside colleagues from more than 120 nationalities.
Medical and dental benefits, worldwide insurance and travel privileges add further value to the employment package.
But the lifestyle is demanding.
Jet lag, overnight flights, changing rosters and long periods away from friends and family can make the job physically and socially challenging. Living in company accommodation also means accepting rules that would not exist when renting a private apartment independently.
The right question is therefore not simply whether Emirates cabin crew receive good benefits. It is whether the combination of aviation, customer service, irregular schedules and living abroad fits the lifestyle you actually want.
