If you’re an expat mother living in Italy, the Bonus Mamme 2025 could provide a welcome financial boost. This support, offered by the Italian government, is designed to help working mothers balance family and work responsibilities.

Who Can Apply

To determine if you are eligible, you need to consider:

  • residency,
  • work,
  • income,
  • family criteria.

The bonus is available to mothers who legally reside in Italy, including EU and non-EU citizens with a valid residence permit. These mums have to work in Italy as employees or self-employed with registration in INPS or a professional pension fund. They also must have an annual income under €40,000, and have at least two children.

For mothers with two children, the bonus lasts until the second child turns 10. For mothers with three or more children, it lasts until the youngest turns 18. Permanent employees with three or more children may also benefit from a temporary pension contribution exemption.

Bonus Details

The Bonus Mamme 2025 provides financial support to help cover everyday family expenses. Eligible mothers receive €40 per month for up to 12 months. Payments are made directly by INPS after approval.

How Expats Can Apply

Applying for the bonus is generally done online through the INPS portal, which requires a SPID (Italian digital identity). If you don’t yet have SPID, you can look for help in a CAF (office that gives tax assistance) or in Poste Italiane office.

Before submitting your application, make sure you have all the necessary documents prepared, including your residence permit or EU equivalent, codice fiscale (fiscal tax code), employment or self-employment documentation, birth certificates of your children, and proof of income.

Obtaining SPID is essential because it allows secure access to INPS online services.

Once submitted, INPS will verify your eligibility and deposit the bonus monthly (€40/month, up to 12 months) directly into your bank account. For permanent employees with three or more children, check whether you qualify for the pension contribution exemption.

Navigating Italian bureaucracy can be challenging, so it is important to ensure that your residence permit allows work in Italy and to translate any foreign documents into Italian if required. Applying as early as possible is recommended: the main application window is 40 days from the INPS circular, but late applications can still be accepted until December 31, 2025.
